Mid-Winter Get-Together (from Don Sadler) -
The 18th annual Mid-Winter Get-Together will be held on Saturday, February 13th 2010 from 10 am. until 3 pm. in the Model Building. No formal program is planned, it is just a great opportunity to quit shoveling snow and doing the household chores of winter and get together with fellow Rough & Tumblers for some fun and donuts. Everyone is encouraged to bring models and other projects, complete or not, crafts, any photos from trips, adventures, past shows (R&T and elsewhere), videos or other interesting stuff. Lunch is bring-your-own with coffee, donuts, soda, chips/dip and cookies provided. Video equipment (DVD and VCR tape) will be available and we will have the heater fired up for your comfort.
The blacksmiths will be set up as well with forges blazing and hammers ringing on anvils, trying to chase winter away. They will have their usual extensive spread of hot and not-too-cold food and anyone is invited to bring food and/or stories.
So, don't listen to the almanac about how much more winter we are going to have. Come on down and laugh at winter at R&T and have some fun in the process.
The snow date (only as a result of serious snow) will be Saturday, February 20th 2010.
Don Sadler, Tom Harding and Russ Jenkins

Steam School 2010

  (ENROLLMENT FOR 2010 IS FULL!)
Rough & Tumble Steam School - Kinzers, Pa.
May 15, 2010, and May 22, 2010.
Steam School tuition is $75, which includes school materials. Enrollment is limited to Rough & Tumble members. New members must join prior to school due to insurance regulations to operate equipment on the R&T grounds. The school is limited to the first 27 applicants, age 14 and over and school fills quickly. Applications are posted on this web site beginning October 9th, 2009. Applications are also available and accepted at the "Time of Harvest" show October 9th and 10th.
Emphasis is placed on safety, maintenance, operation, and the hands-on experience. Class time is limited to half of the first day, with remaining time dedicated to practical, hands-on operation, including cleaning, inspection, maintenance, and operation of numerous steam traction engines. Operating and conditions permitting, students also may operate 2 railroad engines (The Shay and Little Toot) as well as a Buffalo Springfield steam roller and a large variety of steam traction equipment. This gives students the widest experience available to operate steam equipment, unique to Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association.
