Looking for answers!

As webmaster of this site, I occasionally receive emailed photos of equipment with a question regarding what it is or for information about it. Sometimes when looking at photos I have taken at R&T events I am not sure what make, model or year a tractor or other piece of equipment is. This section of our web site is to solicit answers to these types of questions. If and when I receive an answer to a posted question, I'll post the answer with the photo.
How to submit a question - If you have a photo of a piece of old farm equipment whose identity you wish to determine or about which you seek information, you are welcome to email your question and the photo (as an enclosure) tofor posting on this page. Only questions suitable to our purpose will be posted and I reserve the right to re-word your text.
How to submit an answer - If you know the answer(s) to a question posted here, please email the answer to me at. Please include your name and location (state or country) in your email. I'll post your answer and also forward it to the original inquirer.

Question #12
What it it?This ia a part for ?? that I found on my mother's old homestead in western Kansas. There is a "B 1496" stamped on it, and in the picture I have included a dollar bill for size comparison and a pen to show the holes in it. It is cast iron and I had it sandblasted and then I painted it black to stop rust. Can anyone help me in identifying it? I'd like to be able to tell my mom at her 85th birday next month. Thanks much.

Hello, This relic is sitting in my Father in laws field. He doesn't care for it but it looks cool. He was wondering if it had any value to it, or how old it was. Anybody have a clue? It has a stamp of J. D. Adams & Company. Indianapolis Ind. Steve Horacek

Question #09
Hello, my name is Mike Berg, and I was cleaning out an old shed on our property here in Minnesota, and I came up on some old wrenches that I think have the old John Deere logo. The logo is shaped JD, but both letters (JD) are attached together. I also came across an old seed hopper cover that is stamped DEERE AND something, and it is from Moline,Ill. I also found what appears to be a starter or something. It is heavy, has an air line coming from it and it has a small crank on an arm that turns a small keyed wheel, approximately 1 1/2 inch wide. Could you help me figure out what these are and if there worth anything? Thank You

Question #04
During the cleanup of a pile of debis in my barn, I discovered a Straw Cutter. There are two iron plates on it. The first plate reads: "Screw Propeller Straw Cutter, 11 inches, patent extended 1868" The second plate reads: "Sinclair & Co. manufacturers, Baltimore, Pat. 1853 11 inches, Imp 1868". Some of the wood on it has rotted off, but I believe I have most of the iron hardware, and can replace the bad wood. Can anybody give me any more information on this equipment? A picture would even be helpful in putting it back together. All information is appreciated. James Mackeprang

Question #03
In the 1930's my father in law worked in a butcher shop in Philadelphia, PA. He often told about a device which was attached to the wall. This device was used to remove the tendons from turkey legs. He said the task was accomplished very easily with this tool. Does anyone know of such a tool? Does anyone have a picture or can they tell me what it looked like. My husband would like to make one (or purchase one) if he can get more details. Thank You, Helen Nuskey

Question #02
Question 02Need help identifying this old tractor. Picture taken in 1948. Is it an Oliver/Hart Parr, Allis Chalmers or what? The more I've looked and thought, the more confused I've become? Charles W. Lauble Jr.
Eugene Meschke has identified this tractor as a 20-35 Allis-Chalmers, probably about 1929. (05/08/02)

Question #01
Question 01I'm a member of the Crown Point IN. Antique Power & Steam Club, and am restoring a "Philadelphia Egg Grader" patented in 1934 and built by the "Philadelphia Metal Works Inc." It is missing the trays that collect the eggs after they trip the scales. I'm looking for a picture of a complete one so I can restore it accurately. I can't find anything on the internet so I'm appealing to fellow clubs for anyone who might have one or knows of someone who may have one. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul Gerst.
Help has been provided by Brent Lyman in the formal of a personal contact for Mr. Gerst. (05/12/02)
