Visit by the Historical Stationary Engine and Tractor Club (HMT) of Holland September 17, 2002 On September 17, 2002, Rough and Tumble was delighted to host a group of visitors from the Netherlands. The visitors were members of HMT, which in Dutch represents "Historische Motoren en Traktoren Vereniging", or in English, "The Historical Stationary Engine And Tractor Club" (HMT) of Holland. Fifty-three HMT members and guests participated in the tour under the guidance of Peter Rooyackers. HMT was formed in 1978 and now numbers 3,800 members who, like R&T members, span a wide range of antique machinery interests. For example, we met Jan Molenaar and his wife. Jan owns 63 Farmall tractors. We also met Jan de Wit who builds beautiful working 1:16 scale model steam traction engines. The group arrived in Toronto September 9 for a two week activity packed tour of Canadian and US private and public museums, many of them agricultural and farm machinery oriented. They were very enthusiastic about Rough and Tumble and those of us who hosted their visit only wish they could come again during our Reunion or another of our "live" events. The HMT group was guided by R&T President Louie Frantz, Roy Herr, Clyde Burkholder, Paul Stolsfus and others to almost every exhibit on the Rough and Tumble grounds, even though very few engines and tractors were running for them. Paul Stolsfus started up one of his Rumelys for the group and received a round of applause for doing so. Joy Frantz opened the gift shop and many of our guests purchased souvenirs. The R&T hosts seemed to be having as much fun as did our Dutch visitors. For tips on viewing the following photos, click here. To view the HMT web site, click here. Photos
Tips on viewing Photo Albums If you use the "Next Photo" link at the top right corner of each photo, then it will pay you to continue looking at the current photo until the activity display at the bottom of your browser indicates the browser is done loading images. Then, when you click "Next Photo", it will appear almost immediately, and the browser will start loading the next sequential image. To put it simply, wait for the browser to complete loading images before clicking the "Next Photo" button. |
