Blacksmith Days at Rough and Tumble
June 10 - 11, 2011

Admission is FREE!
Blacksmiths Converge in Kinzers
2011 Blacksmith Days will feature multiple smiths working on a production candle holder at Rough and Tumble in Kinzers on June 10 and 11. The candle holder shown here has ten parts: the legs (2). the arch for either end (1), the vertical piece (1), and the candle cups and sockets (6) all joined together without welding, but with tenons and lap joints.

DETAILS FOR THE 2011 EVENT
This year we'll all be working on some part of the candle holder pictured below. We plan to make at least three of these during the day and a half event. Come and see how the parts are standardized, how the smiths work together to have the finished project come together.

2011 Candle Holder Projecy
The candle holders will be started on Friday and completed on Saturuday afternoon. Raffle tickets will be sold for the candle holders, and winners will be drawn for at least two of them. Any other candle holders made during the event will be raffled off throughout the season, with the winning ticket(s) being drawn on the last day of the Thresherman's Reunion in August.
2011 Blacksmith Days Candle Holder
On Friday, blacksmiths will be available to show how a hook, leaf or nail is made, and can offer a hands-on experience. Food will be available throughout the afternoon, and other buildings/displays will be open on the grounds such as the steam engine building. The activity at the blacksmith shop will progress into the evening when a forging competition will be held for both experienced and never-hammered-before smiths.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., the public will find blacksmiths working on the candle holder parts. Food will be available on the grounds. There is also an IRON IN THE HAT raffle, and most of the other buildings/activities will be happening on the grounds.
Admission is FREE for the public, the only Rough and Tumble event that has free admission.
