Photo Album - 2006 Spring Steam-up
May 12-13, 2006

Steam EnginesSpring Steam-Up is a special event each year at Rough and Tumble. It's time to get the steam engines out of hibernation and fire them up. Better yet, it is plowing season, and this year we had beautiful weather and excellent soil conditions. Both steam and gas powered tractors were seen plowing in the fields adjacent to the R&T grounds on Friday and Saturday.
Bill Glenn provided most of the photos for this photo album, but fine photos are also included from Bruce Coryell and Paul Nisula. Click on any link below to see the photo, or Start Here and click the "Next Photo" link on each page to page through all 113 photographs in order. You can return to this page from any of the photo pages.

Miscellaneous Scenes - A variety of activities takes place at the Spring Steam-up in addition to the scheduled events. Even if you never watched the plowing or a pull, there are many fascinating scenes to observe at the Spring Steam-Up.

Steam Engines - Firing up steam traction engines for the first time since last year is always a big event at &T.

Earth Moving - Rough and Tumble's growing collection of large antique earth moving equipment, some steam powered, is a source of entertainment for exhibitors and visitors alike.

Plowing with Steam and Gas Power - For many visitors, the plowing demonstrations are one of the most popular events of the year at R&T and the only opportunity to see the massive steam traction engines laboring in the field.

Garden Tractor Pull - The garden tractor pull is growing in popularity and number of competitors with each event. The Waterloo Boys have obtained their own garden tractor pull sled, and Rough and Tumble uses it for their events as well.

Antique Tractor Pull - The antique tractor pull is a highlight of almost every show at R&T, from spring to fall.

Railroads - The steam powered Shay Railroad and Little Toot Railroad start the new year as well.

Saw Mill - Rough and Tumble's large saw mill, powered by a large steam traction engine, is an eye-opener to many visitors, and is not that different from many saw mills still in use throughout the country .

Tips on viewing Photo Albums
Since our album for Day 3 of Steam School 2000, we have been using a "load ahead" feature in our photo albums.
If you use the "Next Photo" link at the top right corner of each photo, then it will pay you to continue looking at the current photo until the activity display at the bottom of your browser indicates the browser is done loading images. Then, when you click "Next Photo", it will appear almost immediately, and the browser will start loading the next sequential image. To put it simply, wait for the browser to complete loading images before clicking the "Next Photo" button.
