Photo Album - Ray Fleetwood's
Erie Shovel Filmed for the Discovery Channel

Photos & Video by John Johnson

Erie Shovel being filmedIt was a cold (28 degrees) and windy (25 mph) day at Rough and Tumble, and conditions under which you do not expect to see members out operating a steam powered engine. Nonetheless, when the Discovery Channel's Monster Machines series producer contacted us and said they wanted to show Ray Fleetwood's 1922 Erie Shovel on the popular television show, Ray and quite a few volunteers met the producer and cameraman at R&T on February 28 and filmed a sequence for the show. Fortunately, John Johnson was there and took both still photos and some video.
The program on which Ray's shovel will be shown is scheduled for May 3rd. I will try to confirm the date as well as the time and post that information on our Home page well before the show.
VIDEO PROBLEMS -
My first attempt at posting a 34 second video met with considerable problems for several folks who reported to me. I had saved them in Quicktime format. As soon as I can get them saved in reasonably sized Windows Media Format or mpeg, I'll post them again.

Tips on viewing Photo Albums
Since our album for Day 3 of Steam School 2000, we have been using a "load ahead" feature in our photo albums.
If you use the "Next Photo" link at the top right corner of each photo, then it will pay you to continue looking at the current photo until the activity display in your browser indicates the browser is done loading images. Then, when you click "Next Photo", it will appear almost immediately, and the browser will start loading the next sequential image. To put it simply, wait for the browser to complete loading images before clicking the "Next Photo" button.
