John Deere Wagon is unbelivably well preserved (See Bill's note below photo.)
This all-original example of an early John Deere farm wagon is one of the finest in existence. It was found in an old barn on a farm in, of all places, Wagontown, PA! The wooden spokes for the wheels are made from hickory and the large wheel hubs are made of oak. The box is made from choice pine, wihtout a knot appearing in any of the boards. If you look closely, you can still see remnants of the original paint. The bed of the wagon was the familiar John Deere dark green accented by yellow striping. The original paint was made from buttermilk and after many years of use in the sun, is now faded. The latch door at the rear of the wagon bed could be opened slightly to dump grain. |
