Photo Album - 2003 Spring Steam-up
May 9-10, 2003

Stationary Steam MuseumSpring Steam-Up is a special event each year at Rough and Tumble. It's time to get the steam engines out of hibernation and fire them up.
Normally, the Steam-Up includes plowing by steam traction engines as well as a large parade and tractor pull. While the 2003 event did not get completely rained out as the Spring Pull event did, it was unfortunately affected by wet grounds from the week's rain as well as showers off and on during the event itself.
Nonetheless, many visitors came to see the Steam-Up and had a good time, especially enjoying the opportunity to view the Stationary Steam and Gas Engines exhibits and the Model Shop and Blacksmith Shop, all of which are protected from the weather. (See the Photo Albums page for links to prior years' Spring Steam-Up events for photos of previous plowing activities.)

Steam Traction Engines - Several Steam Traction Engines were in operation for visitors to see as well as the Baker fan and saw mill.

Stationary Steam Museum - Regardless of the weather outside, the stationary steam museum is always fascinating end enjoyable.
Gas Tractors - Many gas engined tractors and engines are running during Spring Steam-up, and many others are available for viewing in storage sheds as they wait for John Deere Day and especially the Threshermen's Reunion in August.

Model Shop and Blacksmith Shop - One of the highlights this year was the demonstrations by tinsmith Win Harrison in the Model Shop, with one of his creations the prize for the Blacksmith Shop's raffle.

Railroads and Other Scenes - Both the Shay RR and the Little Toot RR were in operation during the Steam-Up and had plenty of business. Other scenes show that the weather did not keep exhibitors and visitors from having a good time.

Pedal Pull - Like the other events, the pedal pull was somewhat reduced in scale, but it was great fun for the youngsters who participated and those who watched.

    Tips on viewing Photo Albums
Since our album for Day 3 of Steam School 2000, we have been using a "load ahead" feature in our photo albums.
If you use the "Next Photo" link at the top right corner of each photo, then it will pay you to continue looking at the current photo until the activity display at the bottom of your browser indicates the browser is done loading images. Then, when you click "Next Photo", it will appear almost immediately, and the browser will start loading the next sequential image. To put it simply, wait for the browser to complete loading images before clicking the "Next Photo" button.
