Medium and Large Gas Engines - An especially fascinating array of medium and large gas and diesel engines were on display this year. The Long Island Antique Power Association (LIAPA) had several large gas/diesel engines on display, and watching them start each engine was quite an education.
Small Gas Engines - All sizes and shapes of small gas engines are always a hit at the reunion. In addition to a variety of motors, the machines they power are equally fascinating.
Models - Displayed in the Model Building, on tables in the shade, and driving around the grounds, scale models are always a hit at the Reunion.
General Scenes - It's hard to take photos of any Rough and Tumble event and not come up with photos of general interest that may not fit in any particular category.
- One of many Civil Air Patrol cadets who provided excellent
traffic and parking control for this year's Reunion
- A Ford tractor conversion by the "Farm Tractor Company"
- The original car axle provides direct drive to a gear
on the inside of the wheel rim
- The Ford's springs are retained in this conversion
- As always, the Fertility Flyer attracts a crowd
- Mike Knaub uses this International truck to...
- ...transport kindling for firing his Aultman Taylor
- A custom row crop pedal tractor with unique lettering
- A pulley powered by a Model T is set up to power
a small harvester
- The harvester is a "Favorite" manufactured by the
Orangeville Agricultural Works, Orangeville, PA
- Visitors were fascinated by both the Model A
powered pulley system and ...
- ... and by the harvesting process
- A favorite attraction during the harvesting demonstrations
is the Jump Press. Look carefully and you will see the
young man inside the press, jumping on the straw.
- R&T's Dederick Jump Press is powered by a two horse sweep
- After compression, the 100+ pound bale is dropped to the ground
- A portable saw mill demonstration featured this mechanism
to feed logs for the reciprocating saw
- The log is held in place while the saw does its job
- The portable saw mill was powered by a hit and miss engine
- The mill was manufactured by the Morrisville Foundry Co.
- Jim Martin operates the portable steam engine that
powers the shingle mill
- The shingle mill operates throughout most of the Reunion
- Shingles with the R&T logo are sold to raise funds to
support the operation of the shingle mill
- Visitors watch a 1910 Dieter engine power a small thresher
- Antique autos were on display here in the Tractor Building
as well as in the Auto Haus
- This 1953 Studebaker truck was seen in the Parade of Power
- A complex series of pulleys and belts are typical
of threshing machines
- This beautifully restored Avery "Yellow" thresher was
donated to R&T by Geraldine Kohler Wise
- The R&T Kitchen usually has both lines open during Reunions
- The Blacksmith Shop was showing off its expanded shop
with new bellows fire box
- Look carefully and you will see John Johnson "pedalling"
in the hugh flywheel to start the Steam Museum's
c. 1890 Watts Campbell Corliss Steam Engine
- Ivan Zimmerman (in hat) and Jonathan Werning demonstrate
Rough and Tumble's saw mill
- Two 1/4 scale Case engines wait in the shade.
- The East Hampton Fire Department again demonstrated its
popular 1919 American Lefrance truck with
1903 Nott steamer powered pump
- John McCarter shows the power plant in his replica
1890 horseless carriage
- Bill Herr shows Linda Merriwether his model conestoga
and farm wagons. Bill conveys a wealth of knowledge about
the old Conestoga Road that passes through
Chester and Lancaster Counties.
- Very young visitors to Rough and Tumble often have
the best accommodations for sight-seeing
- The large flea market at the annual Reunion is not
limited to the usual flea market fare, but includes
tractors, implements, tires and parts
- A violent thunderstorm Saturday afternoon reduced
participation in the "official" photo of R&T's Board of Directors.
Another photo was taken at the Fall Harvest in October.
From left to right, Steve McCoy, Dave Payeur,
Steve Flick, Willard Adams, Norman Gay, John Gouge,
Al Stevens and club president, Louie Frantz.
