Simon McQuinn Johnson Jr., 83, of Quarryville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, August 2, 2018, with his son by his side at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

Born June of 1935 in Apex, Wake County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Simon M., Sr. and Hannah Collar Johnson, and the foster child of the late H. William and Margaret Ammon Maser.

Simon spent his early years on the Maser farm outside of Christiana, PA. He went to school until grade 6 at the Cooperville School near Christiana. While continuing to farm, he worked for several companies in the Lancaster County area. Then, starting out on his own, Simon worked on construction projects, demolition, sitework, and grading & seeding. He also was employed for Farmer's Supply, J.C. Snavely, and worked with Skip Mellinger and George Good building homes in the Landisville and Mountville areas, the Gram Corporation working with George Gillespie, to name a few. Starting in the 1960's, he plowed snow with an International Scout and a manual angle plow, then moving to Dodge Sno Commanders and Power Wagons in the mid 70's and continued into the 2000's with Ram Trucks.

Simon was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the following fraternal organizations: Washington Lodge 156, F.& A.M., Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest No. 27, and Lancaster Shrine Club.

He was in the 1975 class of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville and was given the title "The Stony Hill Hole Builder." Simon was a director of the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owner's Club Chapter 12 and member of the following organizations: Strasburg Sportsman Association, Antique Truck Club of America, Antique Truck Historical Society, ATHS Mason Dixon Chapter, ATHS Susquehanna Valley Chapter, and the Rough & Tumble Historical Engineers Association. He enjoyed operating and collecting historic construction equipment and farm tractors and equipment, mostly Caterpillar and Massey Harris, his most recent purchase being on his 83rd birthday.

Surviving Simon is a son, Kenneth, husband of Christine McClellan Johnson of Strasburg and two grandchildren, and a sister, Judith Peters of Lancaster. He is predeceased by his wife, Leora (Sickman) Johnson of 54 years at the time of her passing in 2014. Also predeceased by siblings; 3 brothers; Richard, twins Roland and Robert and 2 sisters; Gloria Lemon and Helen Heaton.

Funeral services will take place at the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, PA 17566 on Friday, August 10, 2018, beginning with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. There will be viewings at the church on Thursday evening, August 9 from 5-7 p.m. and also on Friday evening from 5-6 p.m. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

Interment will be private at the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
