John L. Chandler, Jr.

John L. Chandler, Jr., 73, of Delmar, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at his home. 

He was born June 16. 1943 in Millsboro, a son of the late John "Sam" Chandler, Sr. and Betty (Knepp) Chandler.

John proudly served his country in the Delaware National Guard. He was a gifted mechanic and started his career working for W.C. Littleton and Son in Laurel. He then went on to work for 14 years as an auto mechanic for Oliphant Chevrolet before leaving to open his own repair shop called Chandler's General Repairs, a career he loved for many years. He enjoyed tinkering on cars and was an avid John Deere enthusiast. Memberships included the Rough & Tumble Engineers Historical Association, Eastern Shore Threshermen & Collectors Association, First State Antique Tractors Club, Waterloo Boys of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the Tuckahoe Steam & Gas Association. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann Chandler; children, Laurie Dickerson and husband, John Paul of Laurel, Jennifer Reddy and husband, Sudhakar of Love Park, Illinois, Katie Gell and husband, David of Stockton, Maryland and John "Skip" Chandler, III of Delmar; grandchildren, Matthew Dickerson (Toni), C.J. Dickerson, Zak Dickerson (Jenna), Devi Reddy, Shanta Reddy, Ethan Gell and Elizabeth Gell; a great granddaughter, Parker Dickerson; siblings, Bill Chandler of Laurel, Patti Farrell of Laurel and Kay Cooper of Delmar; and his beloved dog and sidekick, "Chloe", his beagle. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Pastor John Oltman will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Melson's Cemetery.
