Rough & Tumble Engineers
Kinzers, Pennsylvania

Lester S. Hoffman, 90, of Elizabethtown, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2014.  Born in Rheems, PA, he was the son of the late Harvey and Katie Hoffman.  He was the loving husband of A. Ruth (Longenecker) Hoffman, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage on September 27, 2013.  He was the last surviving member of his family and was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Anna, Sam, Millard, Miriam, Harvey, Dorothy and Art.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He retired from AMP, Inc. after 35 years.  Lester and his wife volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for 21 years.  He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown for 66 years.  Also a lifetime member of the Rheems Fire Company, Milton Grove Sportsman Assoc., and the Rough and Tumble Engineers Assoc. in Kinzers, PA, where he donated a model of his Frick Steam Engine which is displayed in the Museum in Kinzers.  After retiring, he loved working in his shop making over 50 small scale steam engines which he enjoyed displaying and sharing stories at the Elizabethtown Fair and many other events.  He was also invited to share his display at the Harrisburg Farm Show for several years.

He loved to take his family camping and travelled to the West Coast making many memories along the way.  He was a fierce competitor playing Parchesie with his children and grandchildren.  Thanks dad for the memories we’ll cherish through the years.

In addition to his loving wife, he will be lovingly missed by his five children: Tom (MaryAnne) Hoffman, Audrey (Larry) Stauffer, Barb (Dennis) Snyder, Joe (Darlene) Hoffman, Sam (Carolyn) Hoffman all of Elizabethtown, PA, 10 grandchildren, John, Tammy, Michelle, Michael, Heather, Greg, Amy, Megan, Curtis and Crystal and 15 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster County who lovingly cared for our dad and made him comfortable as we were able to spend precious time with him.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown.  Burial will be in West Green Tree Cemetery.
